Julian Worsley’s practice is focused on life sciences matters, and he advises pharmaceutical and medical device clients in respect of regulatory, intellectual property, commercial, and compliance issues.

Regarding regulatory matters, Julian routinely advises pharmaceutical and medical device clients in respect of: 

• provincial drug formularies;
• regulatory issues relating to product manufacturing, advertising, marketing and distribution;
• GMP compliance and establishment licensing;
• product licensing, packaging, and labelling;
• the Patented Medicines Prices Review Board; and
• the regulation of HCPs with respect to manufacturer interactions with HCPs.

Julian also routinely advises pharmaceutical and medical device clients regarding commercial arrangements involving the above-mentioned regulatory matters, including in respect of agreements for importation, fabrication, supply, distribution, quality, and licensing, for example.

Regarding intellectual property matters, Julian’s patent practice includes patent clearance and validity opinions.  Julian’s patent litigation experience includes proceedings pursuant to the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations and actions before the Federal Court.

Julian also advises manufacturers in respect of federal and provincial ATI and FOI matters regarding pharmaceutical and medical device information held by government authorities.

Julian routinely assists his clients in their interactions with regulatory agencies including: Health Canada, the Patented Medicine Prices Review Board, the Ontario Public Drug Programs, the Pharmaceutical Advertising Advisory Board, the Office of Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario, and the Office of the Information Commissioner of Canada, as well as advising on judicial review of these agencies’ decisions.

Prior to studying law, Julian obtained a master’s degree in pharmacology, having studied the neurochemistry of drug addiction.
